February 18, 2025: The Evans County Charter School System (ECCSS) and Claxton High School (CHS) have announced that Mr. Greg Hill will not return as head football coach of the CHS Tigers for the upcoming season.
Coach Hill has led the Tigers since 2021, teaching weight training and serving as an interventionist at CHS. Coach Hill also helped CHS transition from the Pecan Grove to Veterans Memorial Field at Tiger Town Stadium in 2023.
Dr. Paul Mizell, Principal at CHS, stated, “Coach Hill has worked to build a positive culture and a solid foundation for CHS football, and this will be an asset to the program moving forward. We are grateful for all that Coach Hill poured into our CHS students, athletics, staff, and community, and we wish him the best.”
Dr. Marty Waters, Superintendent of ECCSS, stated, “Coach Hill has a distinguished career in football and coaching and is an upstanding role model for today’s youth. His contributions, both on and off the field, have left a lasting impact on our school and community, and we sincerely thank him for his service. As we look toward the future of Claxton High School football, we believe it is in the best interest of the program to move in a different direction. This decision was not made lightly, and we deeply appreciate Coach Hill’s dedication to our student-athletes and his commitment to their growth as players and individuals. We wish Coach Hill all the best in future endeavors.”
A search for the next head football coach will begin immediately. ECCSS is committed to finding a leader who will build upon the strong foundation of the program while fostering excellence, discipline, and teamwork among our athletes.
