Students in Mrs. Myers’ class are engaged in a module called Data Saves the Whales.
Data Saves the Whales! is a middle school mathematics module that is set within a marine ecosystem. It focuses on independent and dependent variables and Cartesian coordinate graphing, and on math practices related to data representation—i.e. how data can be represented in different ways to communicate various messages to an audience. Students engage in a simulated investigation to collect oceanographic data, meant to mimic the experimental procedures used by marine scientists when collecting samples, and learn different methods of graphing the data to effectively communicate their findings. Students now want to meet the professor and go on a boat.

Mrs. Jackson and Mrs. Smith are mixing things up! They traded students this week so that students could receive the support they needed on their Hispanic Heritage Celebration entries. Mrs. Jackson supported the writing, and Mrs. Smith guided the artwork. What a team effort!

Kindergarteners in Art class are learning about shapes and sharks. They used shapes to create their own shark pictures.

CHS offers lunch to go!

Mrs. Smith, 7th Grade Career Survey teacher, shared her favorite book with Miss Toothman's ELA class on Friday. Mrs. Smith was the business teacher at CMS until this year, so of course her favorite book is "Click, Clack, Moo: Cows That Type."

7th grade advanced ELA students in Miss Toothman's class brought a stickman to life through storytelling! 7th grade narratives sent stick men all over Claxton Middle School. Some of the stick men were up to no good and others were the doers of great deeds! Fun was had by all. CMS hopes that our students never get too old to use their imagination!

Seniors, please be on the lookout for your new appointment time for your senior pictures.

A Hispanic Heritage Art and Writing Contest is being offered for our students. Submissions are due September 17th.

Ms. Ashley Paine, Health Careers Coordinator at Magnolia Coastlands AHEC, visited Healthcare pathway students today. She shared her journey in healthcare and introduced students to careers in the field via a game. Today marked the beginning of the Jumpstart Program which will provide these students twenty contact hours of support in the form of field trips, guest speakers, simulations, and access to some of the most current resources in healthcare.

Students in Mrs. Rebekah Francis's Spanish classes are preparing a piece of writing and art in honor of National Hispanic Heritage Month, which begins September 15 and ends October 15. Pictured are two students encouraging one another as they work on their entries and a work of art in progress.

One, two, three--that's right--THREE classes collaborated today to help one another meet instructional goals. Firefighting recruits practiced risk analysis and physical and mental preparedness. Team Sports welcomed the opportunity to play these uniformed recruits in a friendly game of dodge ball, and Audio-Video students embraced the challenge of capturing all of the "just right moments" of the game on camera. We are proud of these students and their teachers!

It's that time! College application time! UGA Admissions Recruiter Megan Handy visited Claxton High School today and shared information about UGA's admissions process.
