If you need an extra incentive to give blood, at the March 28th blood drive at CHS, each pint that is successfully donated will earn $25 toward the sport of the donor's choice. CHS senior Mollie Lane has selected "Give Blood. Give Life" as her Community Service Initiative for her upcoming Miss Georgia Teen Competition. She has partnered with a business (State Farm) and Shephard's Blood Center to raise awareness about blood donations and to increase the number of pints donated at CHS. The collaboration of this event will have a positive impact on our teams directly as well as the HOSA club that hosts this event. It is a Win! Win! #GiveBloodGiveLife #PartnershipsRock #ThankYouStateFarm #TheDEN

Have you seen this smiling face in Kemp’s Pharmacy? If you have been to this business, you may have seen senior Mollie Lane at work! She is a pharmacy tech at both EMH and Kemp’s, and these job placements have been the perfect experience leading up to her future plans. Mollie, who also happens to be the CHS Star Student for 23-24, will attend the University of Tennessee and pursue a doctorate in pharmacology. Her heart is for research, so she plans to work in this area once she obtains her degree. CHS is so proud of you! #BlackAndGoldBuildingSuccess #TigerPride #TheDEN

📚✨ Big week at CES! Allison Stull from Pioneer Valley Books was back on campus, diving into K-2 classrooms alongside our administrators and instructional coaches to spotlight strong small group reading instruction 🧐📖. The goal? To empower our teams with the know-how to identify and implement robust instructional practices. After observing, Allison engaged in insightful debriefs with K-2 teacher teams, highlighting successes and identifying tweaks to further empower our educators and students 🍎📚. She also continued her professional development work with our 3rd-grade ELA teachers, focusing on In-Tandem word study routines. But that’s not all! Allison delivered a dynamic Interactive Read Aloud writing lesson for our 4th and 5th graders' ELA teachers and coaches, setting the stage for future virtual PD sessions 🖥️📘. As our teachers craft their interactive read-aloud lessons beyond the 12 provided by PV, Allison is there every step of the way, offering guidance on creating enriching content aligned with our standards 🌟📝. #ReadySetGrow #PioneerValley

Students in Coach Lanier's classes are preparing to write their argumentative essays by organizing a debate. Students were put into groups (intense game of Rock, Paper, Scissors) to determine whether they defended Graffiti as an Art or a Crime. Students will debate and then prepare rebuttals after opening arguments. #TigerPride #BlackAndGold

🎉 **Electric Wonders Unleashed in Mrs. Bullard's Fifth Grade Classroom!** 🎉 Our scientists have been busy, hands-on, piecing together the puzzle of **simple electric circuits**. Here's a sneak peek into their electrifying journey: 1. **Understanding the Essentials**: Every student became a mini-engineer, identifying key components like batteries, wires, and bulbs. It was like watching little sparks of genius flying around the room! 2. **Designing Masters**: With newfound knowledge, they sketched and then brought to life their very own circuits. The air was buzzing—not just with electricity but with creativity and excitement. 3. **Explaining Like Pros**: But they didn't stop there! Each young inventor took a moment to explain their design, sharing insights about how electricity flows and lights up our lives. 4. **The Redesign Challenge**: Embracing the true spirit of innovation, they reimagined and refined their circuits, proving that learning is indeed a continuous journey. The energy was infectious, and the pride in their eyes was brighter than the bulbs they lit up! 💡 A big shoutout to our little geniuses for lighting up our day with their creativity and enthusiasm. Your spark truly made the classroom brighter!

The PE department at Claxton Middle School was able to incorporate some digital learning into their classes by allowing students to watch part of the March Madness tournament. The students were able to see a modeled visual representation of what an actual, high-level basketball game looks like. They were able to see examples of communication, attainable skills, passing, and rules enforcement. The students practiced the skills after watching, and they will be assessed on basic rules and fundamentals of the game.

🍀✨ This week, a sneaky leprechaun popped into Mrs. Strickland and Mrs. McKinnon’s classes, leaving behind a magical leprechaun rock for each student! When they placed their rocks into a magical cleaning solution, gold coins miraculously floated up! 🌟💰 The excitement was through the roof! 🎉 The children were thrilled and got to keep the gold coins. These ‘rocks’ were actually gold coins wrapped in a green baking soda paste, which dissolved in vinegar to reveal the shiny treasure. A magical experience they won't forget! #ReadySetGrow

In a collaboration between the Claxton Police Department and the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (G.O.H.S.), Capt. W. Luther Hires of the Jesup Police Department, and serving as a representative of G.O.H.S., brought the Rollover Simulator to Claxton High School as part of a pre-prom event for our junior and senior classes. Along with the assistance of Sgt. B. J. Kennedy, Georgia State Patrol, the students were told of the importance of not riding in the bed of a pickup truck and properly using a seat belt while riding in or driving a vehicle. The G.O.H.S. Rollover Simulator is powered by hydraulics and can simulate about a 35 mph rollover crash. Crash dummies are used to demonstrate what happens during a rollover event. As part of the demonstration, Capt. Hires told of a young man who lost his life following a rollover crash. The young man decided to get into a vehicle driven by an intoxicated driver and not buckle up. The young man was the oldest son of Capt. and Mrs. Hires. The simulator brought today has been dedicated to his son, W. L. Hires, II, and Trooper First Class Ronald "Ronnie" O'Neal, who was also killed in a rollover event while on duty.

During Career Awareness Class this week, CES students are exploring how to enhance our school and community's welfare 🌟. Mrs. Tanner's homeroom contributed a basket of baby essentials to a local foster group and crafted thank-you cards for foster families 🍼💌. Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Kennedy's students pitched in by tidying up our school environment, collecting litter from the campus 🌿🚮. Meanwhile, other classes spread gratitude with thank-you notes throughout our school and community 📝💐. #ReadySetGrow

Environmental Science students at Claxton High School, under the guidance of Ms. Gordon and Mrs. Holland, have been exploring the health of local waterways through Project-Based Learning. They've mapped waterways and assessed water health using EPA data, delving into how daily actions affect water quality. 🗺️🏭➡️💧 Today, they analyzed the quantity and diversity of macroinvertebrates collected from Little Bull Creek. This research is pivotal because macroinvertebrates are key indicators of water health. The waters from Little Bull Creek flow into the Canoochee River, which merges with the Ogeechee River before reaching the Atlantic Ocean.. 🕵️‍♀️🔍🐛 This PBL initiative was made possible by a $20,000 STEM/STEAM Grant awarded to Claxton High School. Teachers Bradley Hall, DeeDee Gordon, Amy Holland, Riviera Selph, Meagan Hedden, Angela Beecher, and Jenna Watkins, alongside ECCSS Instructional Technology Coordinator Samantha Keyfauver, collaborated with Dr. Shelli Casler-Failing (Associate Professor of Middle Grades and Secondary Mathematics Education and Program Director), Dr. Kania Greer (Coordinator of the Center for STEM Education and College of Education), and Molly McKeon (Graduate Student and Ogeechee Riverkeeper Fellow) to develop this enriching PBL opportunity for our students. Stay tuned for more exciting updates and discoveries as they continue investigating water quality ! 🌟📖💙
