Friday was an exciting day at Claxton Middle School as each student received a free book, courtesy of our principal, Mrs. McDowell! Throughout the day, ELA classes visited the media center to pick out a brand new book to take home. There was a wonderful selection of middle grade novels, graphic novels, and nonfiction books for students to choose from. Getting books in the hands of our students is so important. We want to thank Mrs. McDowell for sponsoring this free book giveaway and supporting literacy and reading for our students. The kids were thrilled to pick out a new book to their home libraries. It was great to see the excitement on their faces as they browsed all the options.

Students in Mrs. Stephens and Ms. English's Physical Science classes brought the Periodic Table to life recently through hands-on atomic modeling. Using chalk markers and their creativity, students depicted the nuclei, protons, neutrons, electrons, and energy levels of various neutral atoms and isotopes. This engaging activity allowed students to visualize abstract atomic structure concepts and gain a deeper understanding of the components that make up each unique element. This fun, interactive lesson brought together science and art while reinforcing the building blocks of matter. Students enjoyed the creative freedom to design their own artistic renditions of atoms based on their atomic number, mass, and other properties.

Thank you to all the family and friends who joined CHS juniors for the Junior Class Ring Ceremony on Thursday, August 10. The juniors who purchased rings are ready to show them off, so feel free to ask to see them. #ClassOf2025 #BlackAndGold #TigerPride

CMS students in Mrs. Rebecca Smith's 8th grade math classes worked on developing group work skills while having fun with numbers! The students played a collaborative number finding game where they had to locate the numbers 1 through 100 written out of order on a sheet. Once all the numbers were found, the groups worked together to identify patterns in how the numbers were arranged on the sheet.
This interactive activity allowed students to practice working together as a team, listening to each other's ideas, and problem solving. It incorporated mathematical concepts like pattern recognition in a creative way. The students enjoyed the hands-on approach to reviewing order of operations and number sense. Mrs. Smith was thrilled to see her students engaged, communicating, and thinking critically while reinforcing their math skills.

Mrs. Nicoli, CMS 6th grade social studies teacher, has given her students a big challenge! She wants to see if they can name 200 countries by the end of the school year. To help the students with this challenge, Officer McKinnon came to their class. He helped the students practice finding and naming the countries. The students really enjoyed working with Officer McKinnon. They thought it was a great example of a fun collaboration.!
