Georgia Southern's Center for STEM Education (i2STEMed) provided CHS students a unique opportunity to learn and interact in STEM labs. The STEM Field Experience allowed students to work side by side with the University’s faculty and students. CHS students participated in hands-on activities and tasks that mimic or are a part of current faculty research. Pictures will be posted throughout the week.
These customized experiences allow visiting students to tour and participate in up to four lab spaces as well as dine in the University’s impressive dining halls. Each lab activity is scheduled for approximately 90 minutes per group, and students rotate through varying labs to keep groups small and interactive.
Looking Forward To Seeing YOU This Summer!
During Mrs. Myers's 2nd period class, students had the privilege of engaging with Matthew Callihan, a Meteorologist and an Incident Meteorologist (IMET) Trainee from the National Weather Service in Pendleton, OR. Mr. Callihan provided insight into the operations of the National Weather Service and shared his personal experiences as a meteorologist. The students were afforded the opportunity to pose questions to Mr. Callihan, who expressed his admiration for their exposure to drones and sensors, which he deemed an exceptional experience. In addition, Mr. Callihan revealed that drones had been utilized for some time in surveying extreme weather conditions and damage assessment. However, he noted that drones have only recently been leveraged as a tool for weather forecasting.

Mrs. Rabich's students read all about our "Cardboard Nation" from Upfront Magazine and spent time working to upcycle donated cardboard boxes to show how all those Amazon boxes can be reused to make games, toys, and organizers for their homes.
Pictured are students Austin F, Jontavius G, and Malachi B working together to design and construct a playhouse that can be used by younger siblings.
