Mrs. Hallman's second grade class has been reviewing math concepts and adding and subtracting within 10 this week. Students worked collaboratively with a partner and played a game by starting with 10 linking cubes, taking some away, and having their partner guess how many were left based on what they know about which pairs make 10. #ReadySetGrow #CES

Students in Mrs. Myers' 6th grade Science classes are conducting experiments to enhance their skills in group work procedures, learn about scientific methods and forces in motion! They are testing to see if Hot Wheels cars travel farther on different surfaces like carpet, cardboard, or desk tops. To test this, students are working on skills like: making a hypothesis; designing an experiment by controlling variables; collecting quantitative data by measuring distance; analyzing data to draw conclusions; and communicating results. Experiments like these allow our students to gain hands-on experience with the scientific method and improve skills like critical thinking, reasoning, and problem-solving. This activity leads into our upcoming forces and motion unit.

Students at Claxton Middle School were treated to a cool reward for their hard work this week. The school held a BAM (Behavior, Attendance, Missing Assignments) event to celebrate students who exhibited good behavior, perfect attendance, and no missing assignments. All students were invited to participate in an effort to encourage everyone to work hard and be at school everyday with good behavior and were surprised with refreshing snow cones from Kelipi and Palikona's Hawaiian Shave Ice truck during lunch. Flavors like Tiger's Blood and Blue Hawaiian put smiles on students' faces. The snow cones provided a sweet way to motivate students to be successful this school year. The BAM event was a refreshing boost to wrap up the week on a positive note. Students now have more incentive to keep up the good work in the weeks ahead.

Students at Claxton Middle School were inspired by a motivational speech from special guest Troy Kemp of the Ron Clark Academy. Mr. Kemp captivated students with a powerful metaphor - comparing them to eagles soaring high or pigeons staying on the ground. He emphasized that the choices students make daily determine if they rise above challenges or remain grounded by them. Through engaging stories and humor, Mr. Kemp urged students to act with integrity and purpose to become high-flying eagles. Students listened to his message about being confident, avoiding negative peer pressure, and keeping their eyes on bright futures. After the encouraging speech, the students were motivated to make good choices and lead their lives like eagles take to the skies. Mr. Kemp's visit empowered students to believe in themselves and create their own success.
