Claxton Elementary (CES), Claxton Middle (CMS), and Claxton High (CHS) recently named Teachers of the Year (TOTY) at their annual end-of-year faculty luncheons.
ECCSS would like to take a moment to shine the spotlight on each of our amazing TOTYs!
When asked about the path that led her to teaching, Ms. Deidre Gordon, CHS's TOTY, replied, "I started out at Georgia Southern with a pre-med biology major. All of my life I had planned to be a doctor and cure arthritis for my grandmother. During my junior year, I took an education course as an elective. I knew immediately that I had found my calling. Education was in my blood. My father was a high school principal, and my mother was a high school ELA teacher and media specialist."
Please join ECCSS in recognizing Ms. Deidre Gordon as CHS's Teacher of the Year!

When asked what inspired her to become an educator, Mrs. Amber Sapp, CMS's TOTY, replied, "I became a teacher because of my uncle, who was an individual with disabilities. Because of him, I hope to help students feel included and help their understanding and love of math grow."

When asked what legacy she'd like to leave her students, Mrs. Kelly LaSala, CES TOTY, replied, "I hope to leave a profound legacy that extends far beyond the confines of my classroom. My hopes are that I have created a nurturing and inclusive educational environment, where every student feels seen, valued, and empowered to achieve their full potential. I aim to inspire my students to dream big, challenge themselves, and contribute meaningfully to the world. I strive to impart knowledge, ignite curiosity, and instill a lifelong love of learning in my students. If at the end of my educational journey, I can say I did this for at least one child, then my legacy will be complete."
