On Saturday, March 4, 2023, some of the Migrant Education Program (MEP) students from Claxton Middle School and Claxton High School attended a Migrant College Experience Day at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College in Tifton, GA. MEP is designed to help students focus on academics, graduation, and post-high school options available.
Please help ECCSS recognize and celebrate all of our Tigers who participated!
Ms. McDaniel's 3rd grade class has discussed good decision-making and problem-solving skills to avoid negative consequences. Ms. McDaniel's class applauded good decision-making by creating good decision-making crowns. #CES
Kids are stronger with school breakfast!
Students in Mrs. Sapp's 7th grade math classes are collaborating to create a composite figure and to solve for the area of previously learned shapes. This engages their critical thinking skills when finding all the shapes. Students also had to follow very specific directions to create the folded parallelograms (7 of them), and even more directions to put them all together. The finished project looks much like a pinwheel. #4Cs #ActiveLearning
Mr. CMS 2023, Braylen Ball, made his first official appearance while reading at CES for Read Across America Week. We are proud of you, Braylen, and we look forward to many more great things!

On March 2, Ms. McElveen’s class celebrated Dr Seuss Day with green grits, eggs, and bacon. (Picky eaters didn’t want ham.). The rest of the day was spent doing Dr Seuss related activities.
Congratulations to Mollie Lane, Kaelyn Smith, and Damonae Wharton, finalists in the Canoochee Washington Youth Tour competition!
In the first round of the competition, these ladies wrote an essay on the impact that electricity has on life to secure them a spot in the next round of competition-- live interviews!
Good luck to these ladies as they participate next Tuesday in the final round of competition!

Our 7 Mindset Focus this week is THANK IT FORWARD. One guaranteed way to feel better and become happier is to do something for someone else. One of the best things you can do is to tell someone thank you for who they are and what they have done for you. Telling someone thank you makes the other person feel good and it makes you feel good for telling them! So let someone special know how thankful you are for them this week!

Beautiful Georgia tree scenes now face 602 Hendrix Street! Peach trees, driftwood, pines, and pecan trees make up the collection. CHS art students worked on these pieces to be shared with the community via the window murals. Let us know what you think!

Mrs. Strickland and Ms. Christman’s class enjoyed reading Green Eggs and Ham and then voting on if they think they would like it. After voting they got to test their predictions. #CES
MathMania competitors and alternates enjoyed a Dairy Queen blizzard for their hard work and awesome behavior! Thank you Dairy Queen for helping make this possible! #CES
Webster's Dictionary defines annotation as " A remark, note or commentary on some passage of a book, intended to illustrate its meaning." Students in Mrs. Ikner's 6th grade ELA classes are learning how to annotate as they read in order to build understanding and use that understanding to write about what they have read. #4Cs
Students who visited the CMS media center today got a little surprise. Mrs. Durrence, CMS media specialist, showed them the new "Mystery" section. Each book was wrapped up like a gift, and the students had the choice of a mystery book or any other book of their choice. Most students liked the element of surprise, and checked out the wrapped book. They weren't allowed to open them until they left the media center. The whole idea is to teach students that all books are a gift with a special story, and we can't always judge them by their cover.
CMS would like to congratulate our Young Georgia Author grade level winners. We are very proud of your accomplishment!

High School Transitions students became acquainted with area businesses today at Ogeechee Technical College's annual Business Showcase. Our students were exceptional communicators! They introduced themselves, actively listened to the business representatives, asked questions, and thanked the businesses. Thank you to OTC and the represented businesses for hosting our students!
