Students in Mrs. LaSala’s fifth grade science class have developed models to identify and label the parts of a plant cell and an animal cell. #CES #ExcellenceLeadershipFamily

CMS students who met or exceeded their MAP goal during the winter testing session were given the opportunity to tape Mrs. McDowell to the wall. Students received one piece of duct tape for every subject goal (science, math, and reading) that they met or exceeded. On Monday, all students spent Tiger Pride and 3rd period in the cafeteria playing games and getting their chance to tape the principal.

On Friday, January 27th, CMS 7th graders visited Georgia Southern University Savannah Campus to participate in the JA Finance simulation. This program is designed to help students build a foundation on which they can make intelligent financial decisions that last a lifetime, including decisions related to income, expenses, savings, and credit. #ProjectBasedLearning #4Cs

Mrs. Myers, 6th-grade Earth Science teacher and Mrs. Brown, 7th-grade Life Science teacher, launched their project-based learning activity with Dr. Jamie Roberts, Georgia Southern University's Associate Professor of Fisheries, Department of Biology. Students learned about the human impact on the environment. Dr. Roberts spoke about watersheds, oriented students to their "watershed address" (Canoochee/Ogeechee), and asked students to identify how different stakeholder groups (e.g., farmers, power companies, homeowners, timber companies, Hyundai plant) might affect our local ecosystem. Dr. Roberts concluded by identifying ways that affect humans and wildlife and things each of those groups might do to lessen impacts. #ProjectBasedLearning

ECCSS is hosting a series of stakeholder input sessions as we review and revise our District Strategic Plan. The process started with a Town Hall Meeting during a BOE Work Session on January 5th, 2023. During that first session, with over 40 stakeholders present, BOE members, staff, parents, family, and community members shared input regarding the Vision, Mission, and Beliefs that ECCSS should use to guide our ongoing work. Since then, schools have hosted input gathering sessions with faculty, staff, students, and School Governance Teams.

At The DEN, one of our priorities is to make the learning relevant. This week Culinary Arts Year 2 participated in a Mystery Basket Challenge. Teams were given one pound of ground beef and an assortment of fresh vegetables--onions, carrots, and peppers. Their task was to use these ingredients plus a grain and seasonings of their choice to create a delicious and beautifully plated main course.
This challenge put the students' culinary skills to the test! It also helped them see the possibilities of using what you have when your budget is tight or a grocery store visit isn't possible due to weather or time constraints.
In the end, some very delicious entrees were produced--Beef Alfredo, Smothered Beef Steak with a Side of Rice, and Beef and Rice!
