Claxton Elementary (CES), Claxton Middle (CMS), and Claxton High (CHS) recently named Teachers of the Year (TOTY) at their annual end-of-year faculty luncheons. ECCSS would like to take a moment to shine the spotlight on each of our amazing TOTYs!
When asked about the path that led her to teaching and the legacy she hopes to leave with students, Mrs. Lee Ann Lane, CHS's TOTY, replied, "As a non-traditional teacher (a CPA by trade), I acquired the love for teaching as a part-time instructor at local colleges. As a mother of four (three of whom are teenagers), I knew that I wanted to make sure they were ready to be independent adults and live as successful citizens upon graduation. As a teacher in the public school system, I knew that I could pass this along to so many other youth. I hope that the legacy I leave will include being a teacher who cared for her students and pushed them to be the best that they could be, all while teaching them to become successful, independent adults.”

When asked what inspired her to become an educator, Mrs. Shannon Yurek, CMS's TOTY, replied, "I became a teacher because I want to help students grow and learn and to see their possibilities and potential. I want to help students learn to overcome challenges presented to them."

When asked what legacy she'd like to leave her students, Mrs. Whitfield replied, "Each day I strive to teach my students that it’s okay not to be perfect. I want them to know that with mistakes comes success! You never know what you are capable of if you never try!
I also make sure to show them how much they mean to me by telling them each day that I love them. I always show an interest in getting to know them, whether it’s by watching them play sports at the recreation department or even teaching them how to do a cartwheel at recess. I want my students to remember that I was not only their teacher, but I genuinely care about them and want them to succeed in life. "

The ECCSS Literacy Bus is a mobile library on its way to communities in Evans County. The bus will be full of books for school-age kids in our neighborhoods!
On Monday, June 6th, the ECCSS Literacy Bus will be at CMS/CHS from 12:00-12:45 and at Hagan Park from 1:00-1:45.
On Wednesday, June 8th, the ECCSS Literacy Bus will be at CMS/CHS from 12:00-12:45 and at Cleo Griffin Community Center from 1:00-1:45.

Congratulations to Claxton High School (CHS)! CHS was named as a teaching placement to host a talented group of pre-service educators, known as Noyce STEM Scholars, for science and math clinical experience.
Georgia Southern University (GSU) chose CHS as a partner for the Noyce grant, and we are excited to host this promising group of future educators at CHS!
Summer Feeding Program Schedule
REMINDER: ECCSS BOE Relocation
The ECCSS BOE office is relocating to 705 West Main Street, a site formerly serving as Claxton Middle School, the Ninth Grade Academy, and the Professional Learning Center for ECCSS.
This move will result in annual estimated operational savings of $20,000 for the district, and it puts more of the ECCSS school buildings in use.
The relocation will take place in phases between May 29-June 12.
ECCSS will operate under "Summer Hours" from June 1st-30th.
We will be closed on Fridays during the month of June, and we will be closed July 4th-July 8th.
We will return to normal hours of operation on the week of July 11th.

Class of 2022 Shout-Out!
Recent CHS grad, Logan, updated Mrs. Tina Durrence, one of our CHS counselors, about his progress following last week's graduation. Logan shared that thanks to Option B and his attendance and work at Ogeechee Technical College while enrolled at CHS, he is now preparing to take the Welding Test next week at SpaceX in Cocoa, FL. After successfully passing this test, Logan anticipates an impressive salary at 18 years old!
Logan thanked Mrs. Durrence and CHS for the opportunity to pursue a career while at CHS.
In ECCSS, we are striving to make sure our College and Career Academy Pathways and other course offerings reflect workforce needs and provide students with opportunities like this after graduation. It’s great to hear this update from Logan, and we wish Logan the best on his test!
In July, Infinite Campus, our new Student Information System, will replace PowerSchool.
Start of the year student paperwork will be done online through Campus Parent. We are setting up technology assistance and support, including computer and internet access, at each school to help parents and families with this process.
