During Career Awareness Class this week, CES students are exploring how to enhance our school and community's welfare 🌟. Mrs. Tanner's homeroom contributed a basket of baby essentials to a local foster group and crafted thank-you cards for foster families 🍼💌. Mrs. Cook and Mrs. Kennedy's students pitched in by tidying up our school environment, collecting litter from the campus 🌿🚮. Meanwhile, other classes spread gratitude with thank-you notes throughout our school and community 📝💐.

Environmental Science students at Claxton High School, under the guidance of Ms. Gordon and Mrs. Holland, have been exploring the health of local waterways through Project-Based Learning. They've mapped waterways and assessed water health using EPA data, delving into how daily actions affect water quality. 🗺️🏭➡️💧 Today, they analyzed the quantity and diversity of macroinvertebrates collected from Little Bull Creek. This research is pivotal because macroinvertebrates are key indicators of water health. The waters from Little Bull Creek flow into the Canoochee River, which merges with the Ogeechee River before reaching the Atlantic Ocean.. 🕵️♀️🔍🐛 This PBL initiative was made possible by a $20,000 STEM/STEAM Grant awarded to Claxton High School. Teachers Bradley Hall, DeeDee Gordon, Amy Holland, Riviera Selph, Meagan Hedden, Angela Beecher, and Jenna Watkins, alongside ECCSS Instructional Technology Coordinator Samantha Keyfauver, collaborated with Dr. Shelli Casler-Failing (Associate Professor of Middle Grades and Secondary Mathematics Education and Program Director), Dr. Kania Greer (Coordinator of the Center for STEM Education and College of Education), and Molly McKeon (Graduate Student and Ogeechee Riverkeeper Fellow) to develop this enriching PBL opportunity for our students. Stay tuned for more exciting updates and discoveries as they continue investigating water quality ! 🌟📖💙
