This week's 7 Mindsets lesson in 1st grade is "Lead with Value" and is the last of the We Are Connected mindset. Students watched a funny video featuring Kid President describing things we should say more often to help us be more kind, helpful, and reliable. First graders are learning how to be good leaders! As a follow-up activity, Mrs. Collins and Mrs. Sapp's class created their very own "20 Things We Should Say More Often" classroom poster as a daily reminder.

ECCSS continues to increase proactive security measures for athletic events. In addition to our Athletic Event Clear Bag protocols, metal detectors have been purchased and provided to our School Resource Officers and Law Enforcement. We will begin using a metal detector screening process this Friday night, and we wanted our public to be aware of the new procedure. This procedure is designed to enhance safety and security at our athletic events. Please use the link below for a list of prohibited items and additional information. https://tinyurl.com/bdhyr8ex

Please help ECCSS recognize and celebrate CMS and three 8th grade teachers who were invited to be part of a web-based interview series with the Georgia Department of Education (GADOE)! CMS’s work with Project Based Learning (PBL) is being recognized across the state. The GADOE STEM/STEAM program nominated CMS as a school which is strong in PBL. Digital Media & Literacy, a GADOE group, is celebrating Georgia educators and asked for a few teachers to participate in a web-based series of short interviews called Teacher Chat. As a result of this recognition, three CMS eighth grade teachers, Mrs. Jennifer Price, Mrs. Kelsey Stephens, and Mrs. Shannon Yurek, were invited to be part of a teacher panel for interviews. All three CMS teachers graciously agreed to be interviewed for GADOE's series, Teacher Chat. The hosts of the program were so impressed with the CMS teacher interviews that they decided to turn those teacher segments into four separate episodes, all about PBL at CMS! Congratulations to Mrs. Price, Mrs. Stephens, Mrs. Yurek, and CMS! We're proud of you! #PBL #TeacherLeaders #CelebrateOurStaff #CMS

Check out Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Rabich's American Government students! These CHS students are using checklists with learning targets for the unit they are currently working in. Students participated in self-assessments of each learning target BEFORE and AFTER their lessons! During each lesson, Mr. Lewis and Mrs. Rabich asked students to take notes, reflect upon, and demonstrate their learning in progress! #ProgressMonitoringandFeedback #CelebrateOurStudents #CelebrateOurStaff #CHS

Mrs. Liberatore's class worked on collaboration, communication, critical thinking, and creativity skills in a project based learning activity to design a toy. With a partner, the students designed a toy from the ground up and decided what solids, liquids, and gasses they were going to use to make the toy. They also had to think critically about their design and reflect afterward on how their toy would work and how they could make their design better.

Culinary Arts involves more than just cooking! This career pathway requires hospitality, and that is exactly what Olivia Mejia offered her ninth grade guests. Mejia, a junior who has proven herself in many kitchens, provided High School Transitions students a tour of the CCA industrial grade kitchen, shared her experiences in the Culinary Arts Program, and encouraged fellow students to consider this pathway. Currently, Mejia works at both North Springs and The Griffin House where she assists in meal preparation. Mejia looks forward to pursuing a career as a professional chef. #TheDen #changinglives

The Evans Region College and Career Academy celebrated three "firsts" last week. Brian Croft, the county and high school firefighting instructor, presented Evans County Firefighter patches to Ethan Sikes, Austin McDilda, and Landon Lambright. These young men passed the necessary exams to earn this distinction. Sikes, a recent graduate of CHS, has filed the required paperwork to begin work as a volunteer firefighter in our community. McDilda and Lambright are awaiting their eighteenth birthdays and the completion of some final training. Congratulations to these young men! #TheDen #changinglives
